Occasional overcast skies didn’t cast any gloom over a terrific night at the Outdoor Theatre as the Illyra Theatre Company presented Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado.
We’re really proud of the Outdoor Theatre season in Central Park that we launched 3 years ago and each season just gets better and better. By public demand, Shakespeare has been supplemented with other plays and musicals and tickets for each performance are snapped up. Of course, no one can control the weather but Dartford Outdoor Theatregoers are a hardy bunch and there was barely a ruffle of a picnic rug ruffled as dark clouds rolled in.
Performances at the Outdoor Theatre are suitable for up to 350 people – any more and speech can be a little hard-to-hear for those at the back – but lucky ticket-holders are quick to pick their favourite spot and set up ‘camp’ for the evening. Picnic hampers, blankets, folding chairs and bags of food are the order of the day.
Performances by Illyra and The Changeling theatre companies are the backbone of the Summer Season and we always get rave reviews for each.
Tickets for the Summer Season go on sale in the Spring at just £5 for Dartford residents. Register at the Council’s Website for information and they will send you an email when tickets go on sale.
