The current Bandstand in Central Park occupies a site close to a long-gone predecessor and was opened in May 2010.
The contract to build the new Bandstand was awarded to Gallagher Group Ltd with ironwork by Britannia Architectural Metalwork Ltd. It is constructed of Kentish Ragstone composite and has its own power supply, lighting and a music system to provide music even when no band is present!
It took its official name – The Sir Henry Wellcome Bandstand – following a public competition.
Dartford Borough Council released a time-lapse video of its construction in 2010.
