There’s more good news for Dartford’s economy with confirmation that the town now has the highest rate of employment in the whole
UK. That’s quite an amazing achievement and very good news for people of working age in the Borough.
The number of people in full or part-time employment in Dartford now stands at 91.3% having risen by more than 10% between April 2017 and March this year.
Figures released by the Office of National Statistics reveal that of Dartford’s 69,000 working-age population, 64,000 were employed. That puts the town ahead of every other job
hot-spot in the country.
The town’s unemployment rate has fallen by nearly a quarter to around 3% and the number of residents classified as inactive has fallen too.
The news of our buoyant jobs market is music to the ears of local Conservative councillor and former Dartford Mayor Av Sandhu who now has responsibility at Dartford Council for promoting business across the Borough.
“For those who are able to work, finding employment is by far the best way to secure a better future and for those who can’t work through illness or disability it’s the success of a productive economy that underpins the best social care.”
Av is particularly pleased that local unemployment rates are low amongst the young. He said
“Getting on the employment ladder is so important to first time job seekers Many will remember how bad things used to be for young people entering the jobs market so it’s great that Dartford has seen such success.”
